Before the next keys are handed over

A cleaning specification everyone can work from.

When a tenancy ends, a vague instruction to “deep clean the property” can leave room for confusion. A written cleaning scope makes it easier for landlords, letting agents, property managers and cleaning teams to understand what has been agreed.

Housewell’s checklist breaks the clean into 40 practical points covering kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, living areas, fixtures and the entrance. The companion Housewell PDF includes spaces for property details, client or agency, clean date, booking reference, exceptions and completion details.

Use it to plan your own cleaning, brief a contractor or discuss a Housewell booking. A checklist helps define the work; it does not mean every item is automatically included in every quote.

Built for real property handovers

A checklist for tenants, landlords and property professionals

Tenants can use it to organise a move-out clean. Landlords and agents can use the same list to agree the required work before a handover, noting absent items and property-specific exceptions.

Letting agents & estate agents

Share a consistent cleaning scope with a contractor before a tenancy changeover or pre-letting appointment.

Property managers

Keep cleaning instructions, exceptions and booking references clear when coordinating managed properties.

Tenants & landlords

Understand the tasks involved in preparing a rental home for its next occupants, and identify extras that may need separate work.

Before cleaning day

Prepare the property before you start

Clear and empty

Remove belongings, food and waste. Empty cupboards and drawers so interiors can be reached. Furnished properties can be discussed when agreeing the scope.

Prepare appliances

Empty the fridge and defrost the freezer beforehand. Follow manufacturer instructions and allow appliances to cool before cleaning.

Arrange safe access

Make sure water and electricity are available. Agree keys, entry instructions and the handover deadline, and flag damaged or delicate surfaces.

For estate agents and property managers

Record the property and booking reference, agree the required items, mark absent items N/A and note exceptions. Review the agreed work after completion and report omissions promptly. This is a cleaning record, not a property-condition survey or proof that every tenancy obligation has been met.

Our seven-day cleaning assurance

Clear accountability after the clean.

If an item within the agreed cleaning scope was missed, tell Housewell within seven days. Subject to access, we’ll arrange a complimentary return visit to re-clean that area.

This does not cover new soiling, damage, maintenance, permanent staining or matters outside the agreed scope. Tenancy deposit decisions remain with the landlord or agent.

Practical questions

End-of-tenancy checklist questions

What should an end-of-tenancy cleaning checklist include?

A useful checklist covers kitchen appliances and emptied storage, bathrooms, living areas, floors, internal windows and accessible fixtures. It should also identify exclusions, optional specialist work and any property-specific requirements. The 40 points above provide a practical starting point.

How much does Housewell end-of-tenancy cleaning cost?

See our end-of-tenancy cleaning prices in Cork for standard prices and inclusions. Tell us the property size, condition and required date so we can confirm the agreed work before booking.

Is this an official end of tenancy checklist required in Ireland?

No. This is Housewell’s professional cleaning specification, not a statutory or Residential Tenancies Board checklist. Cleaning expectations should be considered alongside the tenancy agreement, property condition at move-in, normal wear and tear, and applicable Irish tenancy rules.

Does the checklist cover inside cupboards, ovens and appliances?

Yes, the checklist covers specified kitchen appliances and accessible interiors of emptied cupboards and drawers. The fridge and freezer should be emptied, and the freezer defrosted beforehand. Exact inclusions depend on the agreed scope.

Does Housewell include carpet shampooing or exterior power washing?

Not automatically. Carpets and rugs are vacuumed as part of the stated scope. Carpet extraction or shampooing, power washing, hedge trimming and other specialist work require separate agreement.

Can an estate agent or property manager book Housewell regularly?

Yes. Housewell supports Cork letting agents and property managers with end of tenancy, pre-letting and other property cleaning requirements. Contact us to discuss priority booking and partnership arrangements.

Does a professional clean guarantee a tenant’s deposit is returned?

No. Housewell can address cleaning tasks within the agreed scope, but deposit decisions depend on the tenancy circumstances and applicable law. Our seven-day assurance concerns eligible cleaning omissions, not deposit outcomes.
